Hiring nonprofit development professionals is becoming increasingly difficult. However, there are strategies that you can incorporate today that will help you recruit qualified candidates for your organization. Join DRG Talent, NJ Center for Nonprofits, and Women in Development - New Jersey for an informational conversation on what you need to know to find and retain the right talent in 2023.

About our roundtable leads:

Susan Merrill O’Connor Director of Membership and Communications at New Jersey Center for Nonprofits

Susan has been on the Center’s team since August 2014.  As Director of Membership and Communications, she leads the Center’s work in growing and retaining membership; strengthening the engagement with our member and future members, the media, and other partners and stakeholders; and developing and executing communications, outreach, media and marketing strategies to enhance the Center’s visibility, brand, and value proposition.

Susan brings an impressive array of talent and experience to her position at the Center.  She has over 20 years of experience working with non-profits in both employee and consultant capacities to enhance their marketing, media relations, visibility, and fundraising efforts.  As a communications strategist for RelationshipLink Technologies, she was integrally involved in rebranding and promoting New York City’s Department of Education’s Career and Technology Schools; editing workforce curriculum for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services; and other assignments.  She has extensive experience in the YMCA network, where she served as Marketing Associate for the Sussex chapter.

Susan has facilitated or served on several collective impact teams including the CDC and YMCA’s Pioneering Healthier Communities working with hospitals, elected officials, business leaders and schools to implement healthy living initiatives for New Jersey families.  She has utilized her fundraising, volunteer recruitment, public relations and event planning skills in a wide array of organizations and positions, including Metro YMCAs of the Oranges, The Association on American Indian Affairs, Hardyston Township PTA, Little Lost Arts Community Theater, Monmouth University Alumni Association, Northwest New Jersey Reading Council, and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. 

Nina Cogan, Talent Consultant at DRG

Nina (she/her) is a Talent Consultant at DRG. She has expertise and direct experience working in development roles across various nonprofit organizations. 

She now serves in a lay leader capacity as the VP of Women for Israel on the JNFuture National Board, a member of the JNFuture Washington DC board, and sits on additional national and regional committees for the organization. This enables Nina to provide firsthand insight and guidance to her clients from both a board and lay-leader perspective. Her clients rely on Nina to keep the search process highly organized and to go above and beyond to ensure candidates are authentic and genuinely able to lead their organization to success in achieving their mission.

Nina used to play five (yes five!) musical instruments and won a John Phillip Sousa award in high school. She lives in the Washington DC area and is passionate about design, spending time with her dog Nala, pickleball, true crime podcasts, and mental health advocacy. 

Tani Weissman, Senior Talent Consultant at DRG.

Tani (he/him) is a Senior Talent Consultant at DRG. Starting in 2016 as DRG’s first ever junior associate, Tani quickly immersed himself in the field; he actively expanded his network and established trusting relationships with clients and candidates alike. 

Now as a senior consultant, Tani leads searches for a wide range of organizations, with a specific focus on community building and education. Clients and candidates appreciate how Tani brings constant and consistent communication, problem solving, calmness in challenging moments, and ultimately, successful outcomes. 

Tani lives in the suburbs of Philadelphia. with his wife, Jordana, and baby boy, Cobi. He has been referred to as an “outgoing introvert,” enjoys reading non-fiction, and has recently started to pick-up tennis.

ROUNDTABLES

  • Are hosted on each month on Zoom. The schedule can be found at widmercer.org/events.
  • Registration for each roundtable is required.
  • Are always FREE for members.
  • $15 for non-members.
  • Roundtables provide an opportunity for open discussion and a safe place to brainstorm new ideas and strategies.
  • All levels of experience in development, fundraising, and nonprofit management are welcome.
